a survey study of the relationship between the tendency toward teleworking and organizational commitment among the librarians of isfahan public universities

purpose: the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between tendency toward teleworking and organizational commitment (affective commitment, continuance commitment, and normative commitment) among the librarians of isfahan public universities. methodology: the research method was descriptive – correlational survey and the population consisted of all librarians in isfahan university (university of isfahan, isfahan university of medical science, and isfahan university of technology) in 2011-2012 (n=164). to determine the sample size, 107 librarians were selected based on cochran formula and random stratified sampling method. in order to collect the required data allen and meyer’s organizational commitment questionnaire (1990) and the researcher made questionnaire of teleworking were used. the face validity was approved by experts and its reliability was calculated by cronbach's alpha coefficient (α =0.86). to analyze the data descriptive and inferential statistics were used using spss software. findings: the results revealed that organizational commitment was significantly associated with tendency toward teleworking in isfahan public universities’ librarians. there is no significant difference between the average of tendency toward teleworking and any of the demographic variables. also, there is no significant difference between the average of organizational commitment and demographic variables of gender, organizational position, place of service, and measure of study, but there is a significant difference in the two variables of academic degree and field service record of librarians. considering the fact that some of library activities have the potential of teleworking if appropriate infrastructure exists, based on the criteria of organizational commitment, managers can plan appropriately to implement them.
